Why Quad Biking Near Taroudannt?
The terrain around Taroudannt is almost uniquely suited to quad biking. To the north, the Souss River floodplain offers wide-open tracks through date palm plantations and irrigated fields. To the south and east, the plain gives way to the first folds of the Anti-Atlas — rocky ridges, dry riverbeds and scrubland crossed by Berber tracks that have existed for centuries. None of it is accessible by road, and all of it is magnificent.
Unlike desert quad experiences further south — Merzouga, Zagora — the terrain here is varied rather than monotonous. You'll move through five or six distinct landscape types in a single two-hour circuit: palm groves, agricultural land, open scrub, dry wadi beds, and the views back towards Taroudannt's rose-red ramparts.
Our Quad Bike Routes
Route 1: The Palm Grove Circuit (Beginner)
This 20-km circuit is perfect for first-time riders and families. It follows tracks through the date palm groves east of Taroudannt, passing through working farms and small Berber hamlets before looping back along the old caravan road that runs outside the city walls. Maximum speeds are low, surfaces are generally good, and the pace is leisurely enough to take in the landscape properly.
Duration: approximately 2 hours including safety briefing. Suitable for ages 14+.
Route 2: The Anti-Atlas Foothills (Intermediate)
A longer and more challenging circuit that heads south-east from Taroudannt into the first ridges of the Anti-Atlas. The route climbs through argan forest — a UNESCO-protected biosphere — to a viewpoint overlooking the entire Souss Valley before descending via dry riverbeds and rocky tracks back to the plain. This route includes some steep sections and loose surfaces; previous off-road experience is helpful but not essential.
Duration: approximately 3 hours. Minimum age 16.
Route 3: The Souss River Trail (Intermediate)
Following the course of the Oued Souss as it winds through the plain, this route explores the riverbed and its flanking palmeries before crossing the plain to a ruined kasbah from where you can see all the way to the Atlantic coast on a clear day. The riverbed section — crossing and recrossing dry sandy channels — is the highlight: fast, technical and deeply satisfying.
Duration: approximately 2.5 hours. Minimum age 16.
We can design custom itineraries for experienced riders who want longer excursions or specific terrain. Contact us on WhatsApp to discuss options — multi-hour and full-day quad adventures are available for groups.
What to Expect on the Day
Safety Briefing
Every session begins with a 15–20 minute briefing covering quad controls, hand signals, how to handle rough terrain and emergency procedures. First-time riders also get a 10-minute practice session on a flat area before hitting the trails. Helmets, goggles and gloves are provided — wear long trousers and closed shoes.
Group Size
We run excursions for groups of 1–4 quads. Smaller groups give a more personal experience and allow the guide to tailor the route to the group's pace. Larger groups (up to 8) can be accommodated on request.
The Guide
Your guide leads the group throughout the excursion, sets the pace, and handles any mechanical issues. All our guides are local — they know every track, every farmer's name, every viewpoint. They also know when to push the pace and when to slow down and let you absorb the landscape.
Practical Information
Price
From €50 per person. Price includes quad hire, fuel, helmet, goggles, gloves and a guide throughout. Discounts available for groups of 3 or more.
When to Book
Quad biking is available year-round, but we recommend booking at least 24 hours in advance. Morning sessions (departing 8–9am) offer the best light and cooler temperatures; late afternoon sessions (4–5pm departure) are magical in the golden hour. Midday sessions in summer (June–August) are not recommended due to heat.
What to Wear
- Long trousers — the tracks are dusty and the scrub can scratch
- Closed shoes or boots (no sandals or flip-flops)
- A t-shirt or light long-sleeved shirt
- Sunscreen and sunglasses (goggles are provided but sunglasses are worn underneath)
- A change of clothes — you will return dusty
Bring a bandana or buff to cover your nose and mouth on dusty tracks. The local guides all wear them — it makes a significant difference to how much dust you ingest on the drier routes.
Quad Biking with Children
Children aged 10–13 can ride pillion with an adult on the beginner route. Children 14+ can ride their own quad on Route 1 with parental consent and a full safety briefing. All children must wear helmets; we carry child-sized helmets in our kit.
Is Previous Experience Needed?
No previous quad bike or motorcycle experience is necessary for Route 1. The beginner circuit is designed for people who have never sat on a quad, and our guides will have you completely comfortable within the first ten minutes. For Routes 2 and 3, some confidence on uneven terrain is helpful — but we've taken many complete beginners on these routes and they've all come back smiling.
Combining with Other Activities
Many visitors combine a morning quad excursion with an afternoon in the medina, or book the quad on the same day as a horse ride to experience the Souss plain from two very different perspectives. Read our horseback riding guide if you'd like to compare.
